Key Areas of Research: He has varied interest in Agricultural Food Crops’ value chain with special Research interest in the development of appropriate postharvest technologies, biochemical analyses, sensory evaluation as well as exploring processing avenues to add value to food crops to help transform food crops and under-utilized agricultural produce in Ghana into forms that are marketable, consumer-acceptable and have excellent post-harvest characteristics through research.

Mr. John Kwaku Addo attended Asanteman and Kumasi Academy Secondary School and holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) Degree in Chemistry (2nd Class Honors, Upper Division) from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and M.Sc. (Food Science and Technology) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana. Mr Addo is currently pursuing Ph.D. (Food Science and Technology) at KNUST.

Did his National Service at CSIR – Crops Research Institute’s (CSIR – CRI) Analytical and Physiology Laboratory (1999 – 2000). Practiced Tissue culture in the Tissue Culture Laboratory of CSIR – CRI. 

Became Head of Section (HOS), Ghana Grains Development Board (GGDP)/GlobaL 2000 Biochemistry Laboratory after MSc. (2007 to date). 

Was Head of Division (HOD) for the Biotechnology, Seed and Food Science Division between January, 2010 and December, 2010 where he worked as the Administrative head of the division and member of the Institute’s Internal Management Committee. 

Was panel member of staff interviewed for integration into research grade during this tenure as HOD. He was head, WAAPP Postharvest Programme (WAAPP 1) from 2008 to 2011. Mr Addo has expertise in the development of business plans for Companies and Farmer-based Organizations (FBOs)

Mr. Addo has the following local and International affiliations;

International – Member, Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses – The Electronic Working Group

National –     Member, Public Review Committee on Food and Nutrition, Ghana Standards Authority

Member –     CSIR- Research Staff Association (RSA), currently, organizing secretary, CRI – RSA

Mr. Addo has a number of peer reviewed publications in international journals. He has attended both international and local conferences and training workshops and has good knowledge and experience in project management and writing of research proposals for funding.
