MR. PAUL BERKO
I am Paul Berko (FCA), born on January 14, 1966 at Ashanti Mampong in the Ashanti region of Ghana. I am a Christian (Catholic) and married with Three (3) children. I am currently the Head of Finance of CSIR-Crops Research Institute, P.O. Box 3785, Kumasi, Ghana. I completed my “O” Level and “A” Level education at Amaniampong Secondary School in 1985 and Kumasi Workers College in 1989 respectively. I continued at Kumasi Polytechnic to pursuit Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana Intermediate course from 1990-1992.
In January 1995 I was employed as Senior Accounts Clerk at CSIR-Savanna Agricultural Research Institute. (CSIR-SARI). In 2006-2010 while still working at (CSIR-SARI) I obtained first degree in Business Education in Accounting with first class honours. In the year 2012, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and admitted as a full member in April 2013. I also pursuit Master’s degree with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and obtained Commonwealth Executive Master’s in Business Administration (CEMBA) in 2014.I was appointed as a deputy Head of Finance at CSIR-SARI from December 2010 to February 2017.
In February 2013 I was appointed as the Head of Finance of CSIR-SARI. In January 2021, I was promoted to Senior Accountant. I worked with CSIR-SARI for Twenty-Seven (27) year till in June 2022 I was transferred to CSIR-Crops Research Institute to head the finance division of the Institute.
My working experience covers the following areas:
preparation of final accounts since 1997, system administrator of the SCALA accounting software; preparation of projects accounts, training and supervision of students on attachment, supervision of general accounting staff duties. I can also work with Microsoft Word, Excel, power-point, publisher and access.
In 2018 I also pursuit diplomat in Chartered Diploma in Forensic Audit with Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG). And having worked as a member of Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) for more than Ten (10) years, I was awarded a fellowship status in 2024.
Other leadership roles held includes; Class representative at the University, president and treasurer of Legion of Mary associations, financial secretary of OLA Cathedral Akankuo in Tamale and currently financial secretary of St. Mary’s Catholic Church Ejisu-Besease. I have been a member of audit committees since 2017 to date which includes; Central Gonja District Assembly, Northern Development Authority and currently Sekyere Kumawu District Health Directorate.
My other abilities include ability to integrate well and adapt to new situations, ability to work under pressure, ability to initiate new ways of doing things.
