Brief Bio

Dr. Harriet Achiaa Dwamena is the Lead Statistician at the CSIR-Crops Research Institute. She holds a PhD in Mathematical Statistics and an MPhil in Applied Mathematics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, as well as a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT).

Dr. Dwamena’s expertise lies in mathematical modelling and advanced data analysis, with strong proficiency in statistical and programming tools including STATA, SPSS, SAS, GenStat, R, and Python. Her doctoral research, titled VN-ASCA — A Variance-Normalized Extension of ANOVA-Simultaneous Component Analysis for Heteroscedastic and Unbalanced Multivariate Experimental Data,” led to the development of Variance-Normalized ASCA (VN-ASCA). This novel methodological advancement addresses heteroscedasticity through a weighted least squares framework and is underpinned by rigorous mathematical derivation, incorporating weight estimation procedures, permutation-based significance testing, and robust variance partitioning techniques.

In addition to her research role, Dr. Dwamena is a Lecturer at the CSIR College of Science and Technology (CCST), where she teaches Statistics and Biometry. She has contributed significantly to capacity building by training scientists and technical staff in statistical methodologies and the application of analytical software in research.

She is an alumnus of the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development Fellowship (2018–2020), a highly competitive and prestigious program.

In 2024, she served as a Visiting Scientist at the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), further strengthening her international research exposure.

Dr. Dwamena is an active member of the African Women in Mathematics and the International Biometrics Society. She is also a proud alumnus of Kumasi Girls’ Secondary School.
