Dr. (Mrs.) Patricia Pinamang Acheampong is a Senior Research Scientist with the CSIR-Crops Research Institute. She is an agricultural economist with specialized interest in agricultural policy, gender-related issues in agriculture and production economics. She is specifically interested in structural change (from subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture) for livelihood development of smallholder farmers. She has much experience in agricultural marketing, teaching farmer groups and other stakeholders about agricultural marketing dynamics
Patricia holds a Ph.D. (Agricultural Economics) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in addition to an M.Sc. (Economics-Public Policy) from the University of Hull, UK.
She has worked with various teams on projects and programmes like the West Africa Agricultural productivity programme (WAAPP), Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) projects and the Pan-Africa Bean Research Alliance to successfully execute many agricultural projects that have led to the development and releases of many improved varieties of maize, cassava, rice, cocoyam, beans and cowpea.
Dr. (Mrs.) Acheampong has served in several administrative positions including the Acting head of division of the Resource and Crops Management/Socioeconomics of Crops Research Institute. She is currently the head of the Socioeconomics section.
Her research and training has exposed her to many parts of the world and won her a number of awards. She was the joint recipient of the National Best Researcher award in 2015 and the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development award in 2010.
She has published a number of peer reviewed publications in both local and international journals.
