Dr. Francis Amoako Andoh holds a Doctor of Bioscience Engineering degree from the KU Leuven (formerly Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven), Belgium. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Chemistry, with a major in Biochemistry and Chemical Enzymology, from the Donetsk State University, Ukraine.
His doctoral research was entitled “Regulation of Carotenoid Metabolism and Accumulation in Banana Fruits: A Proteomic Approach”. The research centered on gaining better insights into the underlying mechanisms that determine fruit vitamin A content in plantains and bananas. The knowledge gained is essential for developing the necessary molecular markers and biochemical tools for plantain and banana to assist breeding programs aimed at improving fruit vitamin A content to help alleviate vitamin A deficiency disorders.
Dr. Andoh’s specific research include harnessing agricultural biodiversity and modern biotechnology applications to enhance micronutrients content in food crops. Francis is also interested in the application of renewable energy-based storage technologies towards reducing postharvest-related losses of agricultural produce as well as the identification of nitrogen-use and water-use efficient crop varieties for sustainable agricultural productivity.
