TRAINING WORKSHOP ON THE DUS OF NEWLY RELEASED TOMATO VARIETIES HELD AT CSIR-CRI

After successfully developing and releasing Ghana’s first ever open-pollinated tomato varieties in 2021, the CSIR-Crops Research Institute, with sponsorship from Ghana Care Obaatanpa, has held a training workshop to build the capacity of seed inspectors from the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Department (PPRSD) of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) in the Ashanti, Bono and Greater Accra regions.

The availability of quality breeder, foundation and certified seeds for growers is a key factor in ensuring self-sufficiency in tomato production to achieve food and nutritional security. It is expected that the 2-day training workshop will equip the various stakeholders on how to produce and make high quality seeds available to farmers in Ghana.
Other participants at the workshop included breeders, seed scientists and private sector seed growers.
