Dr. (Mrs.) Priscilla Francisco Ribeiro gained admission into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and obtained a B.Sc. degree in agriculture after graduating from St. Roses Secondary School.
Since then, she has obtained an M.Sc. degree in Plant Breeding from the same university as well as a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, Legon.
Dr. Ribeiro has been with the CSIR-Crops Research Institute since her days as national service person and is now a plant breeder researching into maize
Her vision to impart knowledge to farmers, especially vulnerable women, to enable them increase productivity and improve living conditions pushes her to continuously research into various aspects of the maize crop. She is currently working on a project that aims to breed new maize varieties resistant to all types of biotic and abiotic stresses.
She is a member of the Ghana Science Association (GSA), the European Association for Research on Plant Breeding (EUCARPIA) and the Research Staff Association (RSA) of the Institute. She also won the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) fellowship 2013 and has a number of refereed journals to her credit.
She is also a visiting scientist with the Iowa State University.
She is married with two children.
