Research Experience:

Dr. Alimatu Sadia Osuman holds a PhD in Plant Breeding from the West Africa Center for Crop Improvement (WACCI,) University of Ghana Legon. She also holds an MSc. (Seed Science and Technology) and BSc. Agricultural Technology (Agronomy Option) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University for Development Studies (Nyanpkala), respectively.

Her research is focused on improving farmers’ seeds as well as seeds developed by the breeders on-station. Development of seed systems in most mandated crops of the institute is also her responsibility. Recently Dr. Osuman has identified some promising inbreds and hybrids of early maturing maize that are tolerant to heat and drought stress as well as the combined effect of these two stresses in the sub-Region. 

She has peer reviewed publications in reputable local and international journals.

Dr. Osuman was part of the research team from CSIR-CRI that won and implemented the Community Action in Improving Farmer Saved Seed Yam (CAY-Seed) project in Ghana and Nigeria from the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation in 2015.  In 2017, she won the German Higher Education fund (DAAD) and Africa Center of Excellence (ACE) African project scholarship for her PhD.

She is currently a member of the Ghana Science Association (GSA) and the CSIR- Research Staff Association (RSA)
