Research Interest(s)
Ms. Victoria Larweh attended Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and holds an M .Phil degree in Agronomy with specialty in Plant Breeding. She attended University of Cape-Coast and holds B.Sc. in General Agriculture. She also attended University of Ghana and holds Diploma in General Agriculture. She joined the CSIR- Crops Research Institute in 2003 as a technician and rose to the rank of Principal Technologist. She and team have been conducting research on leguminous crops. Her interest is in plant breeding, genetics and molecular breeding to identify genes to suit climate change. She has specialize in identifying traits of interest in cowpea to suppress Striga gesnerioides which is a major challenge in the Semi-arid regions. Marker Assisted selection is being used to develop cowpea varieties that are resistance to Striga. My team combines genetic and physiological approaches to develop crop varieties that are drought tolerant and high-yielding. The team also specializes in innovative technology development and disseminated to smallholder farmers. The team uses farmer-field school tools for technology dissemination.
