CSIR-CRI Director Earns Master’s in Strategic Management and Leadership

The Director of the CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), Prof. Maxwell D. Asante, has graduated with a Master of Science degree in Strategic Management and Leadership from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

This remarkable milestone comes twenty years after he earned an MSc in Plant Breeding from the same university, and twelve years after completing his PhD in Plant Breeding at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana.
Speaking to CRI TV at the graduation ceremony, Prof. Asante explained his motivation for pursuing this new qualification:
“As one of the very few Chief Scientists at CSIR, I felt I needed to prepare adequately for top management positions. Enrolling in this programme was a strategic decision to broaden my leadership and business skills.”

When asked about insights he gained during the programme, he shared:
“One of my favourite courses was Competitive Analysis, taught by Prof. Moses Acquah of the University of North Carolina. I learned the importance of analysing the environment, remaining competitive and modern, and not just creating value as an R&D organisation, but also seeking ways to appropriate the value we create through our research.”

Prof. Asante’s latest academic achievement underscores his commitment to continuous learning and strengthening the leadership capacity at CSIR-CRI. The Institute congratulates him on this accomplishment and looks forward to the positive impact of this advanced training on agricultural research and innovation management.
