Research Experience:

As an agricultural economist, Dr. Acheampong has worked with teams on projects and programmes like the West Africa Agricultural productivity programme (WAAPP), Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa projects (AGRA), and Pan-Africa Bean Research Alliance (PABRA) to successfully execute many agricultural projects that have led to the developments and releases of many improved varieties of maize, cassava, sweet sweetpotato, rice, cocoyam, taro, groundnut, beans and cowpea.

Currently, Dr. Acheampong is working on projects such as the Building Equitable Climate-Resilient African Bean and INsect Sectors (BRAINS) project as the gender lead on legumes, fruit trees, and insects’ food system; the Agroecology and Circular Economy for Ecosystem Services (ACE4ES) project as the lead socioeconomist; the PROSSIVA-YAM project as the lead Socioeconomist; Engaging Local Communities in Minor Crop Utilization for Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Enrichment (EMBRACE) project as the lead agricultural economist and gender specialist.

Dr. Acheampong’s background in scientific and research leadership is extensive. She has been a Research Leader for the past 19 years, leading and managing research teams. She has authored and co-authored over 100 scientific publications, including 45 peer-reviewed articles in high-impact international and local journals, 24 conference papers and posters, 23 project technical reports, and 9 manuals and production guides.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Acheampong wrote her PhD on “Farmers preferences for cassava variety traits” at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana, and an MSc on “Inflation and Economic Development” from the University of Hull, United Kingdom.  Patricia’s expertise in research and development has culminated in the release of 30 improved varieties, contributing to food security and income generation in Ghana. She received a national award in 2015 as co-winner of best national researcher. In 2010, she received a prestigious African Women in Agriculture Research and Development Award.  She is pragmatic and proactive to realise ideas and objectives. A dependable researcher who pays keen attention to detail and has excellent work ethics for reliable results. Patricia follows plans and methods to achieve tasks within strict deadlines. She can communicate findings through detailed reports and presentations for increased subject understanding.
