CSIR-CRI Celebrates Green Ghana Day with an Enthusiastic Tree Planting Exercise
In support of the Ghanaian government’s mission to create a greener Ghana for future generations, the CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI) actively participated in Green Ghana Day on Friday, June 7, 2024.
The Institute’s Land Use and Management Committee, working alongside CSIR-CRI Associations (Research Staff Association, Senior Staff Association, Ladies Club, CAAG, and TUC) led the tree planting exercise. The program’s core objective was to plant trees for a greener tomorrow and significantly increase the tree cover on the Institute’s campus.
Opening Remarks
Dr. Sylvester Addy, a Senior Research Scientist and the chairman of the Land Use and Management Committee welcomed all members and briefed them on the reason for their gathering. He explained that the tree planting exercise was the Ghanaian government’s initiative to grow more trees to green Ghana for future generations. He mentioned that although 2,000 Royal Palm Trees were requested from the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, the Institute received only 700 trees.
CSIR-CRI Kwadaso Station Joins the Planting
The CSIR-CRI staff at the Kwadaso Station also participated in the tree-planting exercise. They planted a wide range of trees, including Mahogany, Ofram, Weeping Willow, and Royal Palm.
Hope for the Future
The Green Ghana Day Celebration at CSIR-CRI was successful at both the Fumesua and Kwadaso stations. This initiative not only supports the government’s plan for a greener Ghana but also protects the Institute’s land from encroachers. The CSIR-CRI will continue to work towards a more sustainable future and create a green Ghana for future generations.
