LAUNCH OF AGROECOLOGY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY FOR ECOSYSTEM SERVICES PROJECT
The Agroecology and Circular Economy for Ecosystem Services (ACE4ES) project is pleased to announce its official launch, a momentous step towards fostering sustainable agriculture in Africa. Led by the CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), in collaboration with partners including AfricaRice, Youth Initiative for Land in Africa (YILAA), and Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), this pioneering initiative aims to combat Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) from rice and maize production through innovative agroecology and circular economy technologies.
The ACE4ES project, which is funded by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) unites a diverse consortium of stakeholders, comprising researchers, policymakers, farmers, private sector partners, and civil society organizations, all dedicated to addressing climate change and advancing sustainable food systems.
At the core of the ACE4ES project lies the establishment of a multicultural technology park, serving as a hub for showcasing and validating cutting-edge agricultural technologies. Through rigorous research and development efforts, the project will evaluate the effectiveness of various agroecology and circular economy practices in reducing SLCP emissions, improving soil health, and enhancing crop resilience.
Key components of the ACE4ES project include:
Research and Development: Conducting on-site validation studies to assess the impact of agroecology and circular economy technologies on SLCP reduction and ecosystem services enhancement.
Capacity Building: Providing training and knowledge-sharing opportunities for farmers, researchers, and policymakers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices.
Policy Engagement: Advocating for the integration of agroecology and circular economy principles into national and regional agricultural policies.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Facilitating partnerships and collaborations among diverse stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture and climate action.
The launch event which will be held both physically and virtually on Tuesday, 21st May, 2024 will bring together stakeholders from across Africa and beyond to commemorate the beginning of this transformative journey. Participants will engage in discussions, share best practices, and establish new partnerships to drive forward the agenda of sustainable agriculture, ecosystem services, and climate action.
