Dr. Sylvester N.T.T Addy is a dedicated Ghanaian agricultural scientist with a strong background in plant breeding, plant science and agronomy. He is a senior research scientist, a plant breeder and currently the Head of Division for Legumes and Oils Seeds research for development at the CSIR-Crops Research Institute of Ghana.

He is the lead breeder for grain legumes and Oil Seeds including cowpea, soybean, groundnut and bambara groundnut. He is also the lead breeder for some Neglected and Underutilized Plant Species such as roselle, pigeon pea, tiger nuts at the CSIR-Crops Research Institute. He offers consultancy in grain legume breeding, legume seed system development, technology transfer and training, and agricultural project management. His expertise supports farmers, researchers, and policymakers in achieving sustainable agricultural development.  

Dr. Sylvester Addy has developed and released 19 improved crop varieties for cultivation by farmers in Ghana. These include 9 cowpea, 8 groundnut and 2 soybean varieties. He has scores of publications to his credit which includes peer reviewed journal papers, book chapters, conference papers, conference abstracts, technical reports, factsheets, brochures and manuals. He was a co-winner of the Best Agricultural Researcher Award received at the 32nd Ghana National Farmers Day Celebration in 2015. He is involved in the supervision and examination of MPhil and PhD student research.

He has, over the last 17 years, successfully managed and participated in a number of national and international agricultural projects that focus on the development and release of new varieties of grain legumes and the production and dissemination of different classes of their seed to contribute to meeting national food and nutrition security. He also has a great interest in the development of viable and strong value chain systems for crops. He believes in the principle of agriculture as a business and in the development, promotion and utilization of nutritious food from a diverse array of crops species as the way to sustainably feed the growing population and satisfy the needs of our societies.

He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Ghana, a Master of Science degree in Plant, Soil and Environmental Science from the North Carolina A&T State University, USA and a PhD. in Plant Breeding from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, Legon. He was a visiting scholar at the Michigan State University. He also holds an advanced certificate in Waste Management from the North Carolina A&T State University, USA.
