International Collaboration: Humboldt University Students Visit CSIR-Crops Research Institute
The CSIR-Crops Research Institute, Kwadaso Station, was honored to host a delegation of students from Humboldt University’s International Agricultural Trade & Development program in Berlin, Germany, on February 19, 2025.

Welcome and Presentation
Deputy Director Dr. Ernest Baafi warmly welcomed the delegation and delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Institute’s mandate, research priorities, and accomplishments. The presentation highlighted CSIR-CRI’s work on improving crop production, promoting food security, and developing crop varieties in Ghana.


Research Overview and Exchange
Scientists from the Institute shared their research work and activities, providing a comprehensive overview of the Institute’s research endeavors. The delegation engaged in a meaningful exchange of knowledge and ideas, gaining valuable insights into the Institute’s research projects, successes, and challenges.
Field Visit
The delegation embarked on a guided tour of the Institute’s fields, led by Principal Research Scientist and Kwadaso Station Manager Dr. Michael Kwabena Osei. The tour showcased the practical applications of the Institute’s research, including:


– Enhanced tomato production through improved varieties and disease management techniques
– Pineapple breeding, cultivation practices, and post-harvest management
– Mango propagation and grafting techniques
– Taro breeding, pest and disease management, and sustainable cultivation practices


Conclusion
The visit by the Humboldt University delegation was a resounding success, facilitating a meaningful exchange of knowledge and ideas between the Institute’s Scientists and the visiting team. The CSIR-Crops Research Institute, Kwadaso Station, looks forward to continuing international collaborations and contributing to the advancement of agricultural research and development in Ghana and beyond.
