CSIR-Crops Research Institute Hosts Elon University Students and Faculty

On Friday, January 17, 2025, a delegation of 27 students and 3 lecturers from Elon University, North Carolina, USA, visited CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI) as part of their academic tour.

Purpose of Visit

The visit aimed to expose the students to the research activities and mandate of CSIR-CRI, providing them with hands-on experience and insight into the Institute’s work.

Welcome Remarks and Presentation

The Acting Director of CSIR-CRI, Dr. Ernest Baafi, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the Institute’s position, vision, mission, core values, and goals. He elaborated on CSIR-CRI’s research focus, programs, and successes, showcasing its contributions to Ghana’s agricultural sector.

Research Programs and Success Stories

Dr. Baafi discussed CSIR-CRI’s research programs, completed projects, and outstations, demonstrating the Institute’s commitment to improving crop production and food security.

Advancing Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change Research

Dr. Stephen Yeboah, a Senior Research Scientist at CSIR-CRI, delivered a presentation on CSIR-CRI’s efforts to improve soil health, develop climate-resilient crop varieties, and promote sustainable agriculture.

Laboratory and Field Visit

The delegation visited CSIR-CRI’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Tissue Culture Laboratory, Molecular Laboratory, ACE4ES Multicultural Technology Park, and Wheat Breeding Field. The students gained practical insight into the Institute’s research, interacting with scientists and learning about ongoing projects.

This visit marked a significant opportunity for knowledge sharing and collaboration between Elon University and CSIR-CRI, fostering a deeper understanding of agricultural research and innovation.
