Dr. Jeannette Aduhene-Chinbuah is a Research Scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research’s Crops Research Institute in Ghana. She received her PhD in Agricultural Science (Biological production Sciences), a degree that interrelates crop science and soil science from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan. She obtained her MPhil in Crop Science (Agronomy) and her BSc. in Agricultural Science (Crop Science) at the University of Ghana. She had her secondary education at Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast and her basic education at Achimota and Madonna school. She was a research assistant at the Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (IAST), University of Ghana during her MPhil studies from 2017-2018. She was an Assistant Professor at the Global Innovations Research Institute at the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, Japan from July- November 2022.
Her research interest lies in how agricultural management systems affects the complex interactions between soil, plants, and carbon and nutrient fluxes within agroecosystems and its implications for food system functioning within a continuously changing global environment.
She has been involved in many research projects such as:
- assessing the comprehensive effect of no-tillage on the soil organic matter dynamics of Andosols in Japan.
- designing crop growth models using precision agriculture techniques for tomatoes, corn, taro, and potatoes in Japan.
- adopting of the Tomé-Açu SAFTA Brazilian agroforestry system in Ghana.
- developing of course models for introduction to agronomy, introduction to agroforestry and greenhouse vegetable cropping for vegetable farmers.
- analyzing the physiology, growth, yield and fruit quality of selected greenhouse
tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) varieties as affected by different growth media and potting bag sizes. - analyzing the effects of different sources of nitrogen fertilizer on carrot production.
Dr. Jeannette Aduhene-Chinbuah has won many awards including the International Union for Soil Science (IUSS) travel award for the “World Congress for Soil Science 2022 conference’ held in Scotland, the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation (HISF), Japan scholarship during her PhD studies from 2019-2022 and the A.G. Levintis Foundation Fellowship Scheme for Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine student in Switzerland during her MPhil studies from 2017 -2018.
She was selected as a Special Research Student from the University of Ghana to study at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology under the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) scholarship during her MPhil studies in 2019. As a research assistant at IAST, University of Ghana she was selected as part of 3 students to represent the university at the mobilizing of funds for Sustainable Development Goal 1(no poverty) implementation held by the Government of Ghana. She was selected as a speaker during her MPhil studies during the University of Ghana at 70 celebrations in 2018 to give a talk on “Production of biochar, uses and agronomic benefits to crop growth: a case study in greenhouse tomato production in Ghana’ based on her MPhil studies at a workshop between University of Ghana, SRH Hochschule Berlin, German Government Officials, Cocoa Farmers in Ghana, COCOBOD Ghana and CSIR Ghana). During her BSc. Studies she won a slot as a representative of the University of Ghana, College of Agriculture and Consumer Sciences Department at the High-Level Dialogue on ‘Eradication of hunger and food insecurity: Brazil and Ghana’ in March 2013 between former President of Ghana, Mr. John Agyekum Kuffour and President of Brazil Mr. Lula da Silva, which was organized by The Regional Office for Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization.
