CSIR-CRI KOPIA Rice Pests and Diseases Project Holds Inception Meeting
The Director of CSIR-Crops Research Institute (CSIR-CRI), Prof. Moses Brandford Mochiah has urged scientists on the KOPIA Rice Pests and Diseases Project at the CSIR-CRI to work extra hard to achieve maximum success for the project. He also urged the scientists to deliver their research and financial reports on time to enable the project meet the expectations of the sponsors.
The Director gave this advice at the inception meeting of the project at CSIR-CRI, Fumesua on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. The project seeks to develop integrated pests and diseases strategies and technologies for sustainable rice production in Ghana.
The Principal Investigators of the project, Dr. Kofi Frimpong-Anin and Mr. Atta K. Aidoo, presented the overall project plan and activities for 2022.
The plan centred on four main deliverables comprising the monitoring and profiling of insect pests and diseases of rice; assessing the economic threshold of the major rice insect pests and diseases; developing effective integrated rice insect pests and diseases management based on developmental calendar of the crop under current production systems and developing an insect pests and disease management chart for rice stakeholders (farmers, researchers, students, pest/disease managers).
The KOPIA Rice Pests and Diseases Project is sponsored by the Korea Program for International Cooperation in Agricultural Technology (KOPIA), Ghana Center and being implemented in the Atwima Mponua District (Nyinahini); Ejisu-Juaben Municipality (Ejisu) and Offinso Municipality (Offinso), all in the Ashanti Region.
