Brief Bio:

Dr. Priscilla Francisco Ribeiro is a senior research scientist and a maize breeder at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) – Crops Research Institute (CRI). Dr. Priscilla Francisco obtained her B.Sc. (Agriculture) degree at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2005. She also obtained her M.Sc. (Plant Breeding) from KNUST in 2010 and a Ph.D. (Plant Breeding) from the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), University of Ghana, Legon, in 2015.

She is a 2013 fellow of the African Women in Agricultural and Research for Development (AWARD) and 2018 fellow of the Gender- Responsive Researchers Equipped for Agricultural Transformation (GREAT).

Dr. Priscilla Francisco Ribeiro is a member of the Ghana Science Association (GSA) and past financial secretary of the CSIR-CRI branch of the Research Staff Association (RSA).

Priscilla’s current research is focus on breeding maize varieties that are tolerant to biotic and abiotic stresses and also biofortified maize.  She is motivated by the need to assist farmers increase their yield and improve their livelihood by developing maize varieties that are high yielding, nutrient dense and tolerant to stresses.  Priscilla has led and assisted in the release of fourteen maize varieties since 2016. She is also strengthening her knowledge in integration of gender into breeding programmes. Coupled with her leadership skills (acquired through AWARD fellowship training) it is her goal in the very near future to empower female farmers who form the majority of the farming population in Africa.  Dr. Priscilla Francisco Ribeiro is the founder and CEO of African Girls and Women in Agriculture (AGWA) which seeks to motivate girls to pursue agriculture as a career while enhancing the productivity and income of women engaged in the various facets of the agric profession.  She is married to Ing. Dr. Joseph Francisco Ribeiro and together they have three children, Jenedis, Jeifa and Jadon.
