His research interests include soil and water quality and biosafety issues including molecular biology and tissue culture techniques. He is currently involved with the development of bio-safety measures on Genetically Modified (GM) rice with traits (nitrogen efficient, water efficient and salinity efficient). He is the Bio-safety officer at the CSIR-Crops Research Institute.
Dr. Afriyie-Debrah holds two masters’ degrees-an M.Phil. (Biosafety into Plant Breeding) from the Marche Polytechnic, Italy as well as an M.Sc. (Environmental Science) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he had earlier graduated with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry.
He was a research and teaching assistant at the Chemistry department of the KNUST during his national service in 2004 and also during his masters’ programme in 2009.
Dr. Afriyie-Debrah has had stints with Golden Star Resource-Environmental Laboratory as well as the China Railways Wuju Group Limited, Accra.
