It was all bliss and joy at the send-off party organised by the CSIR-Crops Research Institute on the 7th of March, 2019 to honour the out-going Director, Dr. Stella Ama Ennin, who was gracefully bowing out of public service after 34 years. The occasion which also marked her 60th birthday saw friends, family, colleague scientists, staff of the Institute and other well-wishers congratulate her and share memories of their relationships with her.
Also present at the ceremony were the Director-General (DG) of CSIR, Prof. Victor Owusu Agyeman, members of the Institute’s

Management Board led by the Chairman, Dr. Abu Sakara Forster, past Directors and Deputy Directors of the Institute, Directors of other institutes under the CSIR, Chiefs of Fumesua and surrounding towns as well as members of the Institute’s Internal Management Committee (IMC).
In her parting speech, Dr. Stella Ennin, reiterated her call for Government to support research activities in order to curb the over dependence of research institutes on donor agencies. She urged Government to consider rewarding the winner of theannualNational Best Researcher Award with a 3-bedroom house just as is done for the winner of the National Best Farmer Award.
The Director-General of CSIR, Prof. Victor Agyeman and the Board Chairman of CSIR-CRI, Dr. Abu Sakara Forster both congratulated the outgoing Director and pledged their continued support towards the Institute and to the next Director.
Dr. Stella A. Ennin served as Director of the CSIR-CRI from October, 2014 to March, 2019. Prior to serving as Director, she also served as Deputy Director from April, 2008 to April, 2012. Her tenure as Director saw major infrastructural developments and achievements by the Institute.
Key among these were the installation of a clocking system to check punctuality of staff as well the installation of solar panels on some of the Institute’s buildings to reduce the cost of electricity. She also led the Institute to acquire ISO 17025:2005 accreditation (African Cassava Mosaic Virus, ACMV) for its molecular biology laboratory.
